At Sanctuary Mandela, we don’t just celebrate Women’s Month, we hold space for it.

Once the private residence of Nelson Mandela, our boutique hotel in the heart of Johannesburg has become a place where people from across the world gather to share stories, honour legacies and build new ones. As a man who believed deeply in the power of women to lead and uplift society, Madiba’s former home now continues his legacy by opening its doors to initiatives that empower and inspire women.

We have proudly hosted a number of meaningful gatherings that brought together women from across cultures, countries and industries. One such event was Memory is a Weapon – a poignant afternoon that reunited members of the 1980s Fordsburg Women’s Group of Oriental Plaza. Curated by Artivist Firdoze Bulbulia, it offered a rare opportunity for women to remember, reflect and reconnect in a space where their stories were deeply honoured.

We also welcomed the official launch of the SNL Foundation, founded by Ntsoaki Ledimo, whose mission is to improve access to healthcare, support cancer research, and deliver mobile clinics to underserved communities. It was an evening filled with heart, purpose and hope, held in a space that echoes those same values.

Another highlight was the Southern African chapter opening of the Sister Accord Foundation, led by global founder Sonia Jackson Myles. With a mission to help one billion girls and women know their worth and live fulfilled lives, the foundation’s powerful launch brought together changemakers from across the continent for a day of connection and inspiration.

These are just a few of the unforgettable moments that have taken place here.
