The two rooms carry perhaps the most personal names associated with Nelson Mandela.

Rolihlahla, his birth name, was given to him by his father. It connects the story to Mandela’s childhood and beginnings in the Eastern Cape.

Madiba, his clan name, became an affectionate and respectful name by which millions around the world came to know him.

THE STORY

There are hotel rooms with a story. And then there is Mr President.

Located within the former private residence of Nelson Mandela, the Mr President Signature Suite offers an extraordinary opportunity to stay in the room once used by one of the world’s most revered statesmen.

Mandela lived in this Houghton home from 1992 to 1998, during one of the most consequential periods of his life - from the years leading into South Africa’s first democratic elections to his presidency.

Today, the room forms part of Sanctuary Mandela, allowing guests to experience this remarkable place not simply as a historic site, but as a home.

THE STAY

More than an overnight stay, the Mr President Signature Experience has been created as an immersive stay within Madiba's former home.

Designed for two guests, the experience includes dinner at Insights Restaurant, daily breakfast and a Maxi Bar, allowing you to settle in, slow down and experience Sanctuary Mandela beyond the room itself.

The spacious 50m² suite features a Super King bed, lounge area, garden view and en-suite bathroom with separate bath and shower, combining contemporary comfort with the extraordinary heritage of its setting.
