In a heartfelt celebration of Mandela Day and Women’s Month, Sanctuary Mandela joined forces with the Imbumba Foundation to make a significant impact on the lives of young girls. On August 30, 2024, we gathered at Vuka Uzenzele Primary School in Mamelodi, Soweto, where we aimed to provide 67 learners with a year’s supply of sanitary pads. Thanks to the incredible support from our community, we were able to extend our reach even further.
Initially, our goal was to collect enough sanitary pads for 67 girls, but with the generosity of our guests and online supporters, we surpassed our target. We proudly donated over 1,200 sanitary pads, enough to supply all 78 eligible girls at the school for 16 months! This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to keeping the girl child in school, ensuring that period poverty does not hinder their education.
Key Highlights from the Distribution Event:
- Collaboration: Partnering with the Imbumba Foundation and the Trek4Mandela Programme, we emphasized the importance of addressing period poverty through Caring4Girls.
- Community Support: Through fundraising efforts, we purchased 804 Caring4Girls sanitary pads, totaling R8,040, and collected an additional 440 pads from our caring customers.
Moving Forward
The distribution of sanitary pads is not just about providing supplies; it’s about empowering young girls to continue their education with dignity and confidence. We are immensely grateful for everyone who contributed to this initiative. Your support has allowed us to impact the lives of more girls than we could have imagined.
Together, let’s continue to make a difference. Thank you for standing with us in this vital cause!
